Hello to everyone, when it comes the time to make a barbecue sometimes we make absurd mistakes. As many of us have gone through this, we believe it is important to mention the most common mistakes, and the most important thing: how to avoid them!

USING TOO MUCH HEAT:

Using to much heat will get your food looking tasty outside, but if you check inside it could be too raw or even cold.

How to fix this issue? Very simple, you can have two heat zones, one with high intensity and the other with a lower heat intensity. This way you can seal your food on the high heat zone and then finish cooking them over the lower heat zone.

NOT SOAKING YOUR SKEWERS:

As result you will get burned skewers that will burn before your food is done and the result will be disastrous.

To fix this issue you just have to soak them overnight, and you will get spectacular picture worthy skewers!

MARINATE TOO SOON:

Some of you will think that by start marinating our food soon, we will get the best flavor.  But that’s a wrong concept, because we will end up with a burned layer of marinade that will kill most of the flavor in our food.

If you are going to use a sweet marinade (with sugar or honey) try to use it when you are finishing grilling your food, that way it won’t get caramelized and burned too soon.

What we recommend in this case is to enjoy the natural flavor of your food using the Grilier Gourmet blocks that will boost the natural flavor of your food without the need of using marinades that will burn and won’t achieve the same result.

PINCHING THE MEAT TO KNOW IF IT’S DONE:

Big mistake… that will get that your meat to lose the natural juices and make it dry.

Best solution is to invest in a food thermometer, to help you to cook your food at the right temperature. Another way is to learn the different cooking points according to texture or how tender is the meat.

NOT LETTING THE MEAT REST:

After your meat is done it’s recommended to let it rest a few minutes before to cut it. That way you keep the juices in place resulting in a tastier steak.

Be patient and give it a couple of minutes!

COOKING ALL AT THE SAME TIME:

Some of you will prefer chicken, some others prefer a juicy beef steak, maybe a burger or sausages, some will prefer vegetables. If you cook all the food at the same time, you will get burned sausages.

The best thing you can do is to control the cooking times of every food, putting first what takes longer to cook. Avoid cross contamination, you don’t want your guests to get sick!

USING IGNITION FLUIDS:

It can be tempting to use this kind of products to start your barbecue, everybody wants to get the grill ready as quickly as possible to start enjoying your grilled food. There is no need to hurry, barbecuing takes time, and you have to know this from the beginning.

Learn some techniques that could simplify your work naturally. By doing this your food will taste better because you won’t get the flavor of the ignition fluids transferred to your food.

NOT ASKING FOR ADVICE:

Nobody was born knowing how to make a perfect barbecue. If you have never done one or never get the results what you want, don’t hesitate asking somebody that has experience in the matter or search the internet for solutions. Use technology to your advantage!

USING WRONG UTENSILS:

Avoid grabbing fish filets or beef steaks with tongs. You will only get to split the pieces in two. Use a spatula, leave the tongs for sausages, skewers, etc.

There are many inventions and gadgets available for this use… if you can’t pay for them, a  good set of old tongs and and old metal spatula will get you good results.

NOT ENOUGH PATIENCE:

We understand that it takes a lot of time to get everything perfect and you are dying to taste your barbecue results, but don’t do it just yet! Be patient, give it a break, and meanwhile tease your hungry impatient guests… entertain them with some delicious appetizers, some are very easy and quick to make (stay tuned for more tips on this), and tasty drinks. Before they will notice, your barbecue will be ready to enjoy.

Remember, barbecue is a time to enjoy share with family or friends, and most importantly relax.
